Working with color on textiles led us to explore what could happen on a larger surface. With walls, color became something we could build physically, using layers of pigmented lime paste and microcement sourced locally.

We applied these materials by hand with a trowel, leaving variations in thickness, overlapping marks and areas where one layer met another. Each pass changed the surface. The work called for a different kind of attention: standing close enough to follow the movement of the material, then stepping back to see how it sat within the room.

Light became part of the finished work, catching raised edges and revealing differences in depth as it moved across the wall. These surfaces brought together our interests in painting, materials and interiors, with the traces of making left visible.
