Our furniture work began with a question from clients: could the textiles we painted become part of a piece of furniture? It brought another dimension to the work. Color and composition now had to meet questions of shape, proportion and comfort.

We began designing individual pieces and built-in seating for homes we were working on. Each had a particular setting and purpose, with the fabric considered alongside the form from the beginning. A textile could become something to sit on or lean against, its painted surface changing as it wrapped around an edge or met another material. These pieces trace the connection between our work with cloth and our work with rooms—a place where painting, making and design came together in everyday use.
