Built in the 1880s and rehabbed in the 20s, The Dux Mansion is an exquisite example of Art Deco design. The owners asked us to create headboards in keeping with the style of the home and match the rich Spanish colors throughout the floors, walls and grounds.
We painted the first of our headboards with varying shades of blue: some inky and others in the neighborhood of indigo. The idea was to pick up on the variegated textures of the original terra-cotta tiles and Mallorcan marès stone walls.
Our vintage hemp is hand stitched in Eastern Europe, and each panel is different: some have looser weaves and others quite tight & straight. These irregular textures coupled with our rough brushstrokes allow us to create completely unique & one-of-a-kind headboards.
