December 6: It's Saint Nicholas day and I got treats in my booties! A German tradition that Thomas grew up with, today is a feast day celebrating Saint Nicholas. What we in the U.S. call Santa Claus is actually derived from the tradition of Saint Nicholas. In Germany, many children put a boot called Nikolaus-Stiefel outside the front door on the night of 5 December. Saint Nicholas fills the boot with gifts and sweets overnight, and at the same time checks up on the children to see if they were good, polite and helpful the last year. Looks like I had a good 2015 because I was rewarded with some chocolate coins & cozy bed socks!
